Cures.....what's the truth?

Today I got a shout from a friend that was outraged at LinkedIn pulling a book for being too controversial in it's subject matter. It was a self help book to cure cancer. As an herbalist I have seen first hand the effects that the real world has done for our life, our body's with chemically laden food, little nutrients and stressful lives wreaking havoc on us all.

So I know the next question....IS there a cure for cancer? The answer is yes and no. By that I mean that cancer can be reversed; or slowed with alternative help. But the cures are as many as the types of cancer there are. This means that there is not a one step fix all for all cancers. As I've studied cancer and other devastating diseases; I've realized just how very complex good health can be for someone that's let themselves go.

First off I have to say that this is my opinion of alternative health; and if you have issues of cancer or other diseases I suggest you to get to a medical professional and talk to them as well. I am speaking from MY point of view of what I'd do if I was sick. Now having said that; you are the one that needs to decide what and how you will treat it. No one should make you feel bad about alternatives; in fact I would RUN not walk away from any professional that does not listen to your concerns and validate your ideas.

The issue of cancer is complex for many reasons but most of the reasons stem from diet. I know that this is something everyone keeps saying but the thing is; if you don't get great food energy into your body then you will NEVER be well; it's like playing a defensive game. You need to be able to heal the cells; repair the body and it's issues or your body will break down.....this is only a matter of time.

Now to those that have been affected by this disease or other diseases of the body; such as MS or other auto immune diseases; this problem is something that has been going on for years. It's not like a piano fell on you from the clear blue sky. Your choices of food, your choices of medicine; your choices of vaccinations may have been at play here. I am not pointing fingers; I too have been guilty of eating poorly, taking the flu shot and going to the doctor for the next new poison they offer. But I learned years ago that I was going the wrong way health wise and changed my attitude toward health.

So where to start. I recommend several things to do in the case of a serious illness. First of all you need to eliminate all toxins that you can possibly eliminate. Pesticides in food, water contamination, toxins in house cleaners and personal body items need to be eliminated with organic food, purified water and changing your hygiene habits to come next.

Then you need to address WHAT to eat. I recommend; as many others do as well; a diet as full of raw organic as possible. I believe that most health issues can be resolved with a pH balance of 7.0 being the optimal place for healing within the body. How do you check for pH? It's a simple test with a litmus paper; found at the health food store that you either urinate on or spit on; first thing in the morning before brushing or any food or liquid.
I believe as an alternative professional that disease cannot live inside a pH balanced body. There are many foods that will help in this quest of better pH. Lemons, greens, low carb, lower protein all play a part in the effort to heal.

Next we need to address parasites. These tiny creatures are prevalent in society and have been around as long as man has with health issues being contributed to the little pests in many cases. Most health professionals will tell you that you don't need to worry about it; that your diet is not the issue or that they just plain don't exist. Yet many many more people are having health related issues from these critters.....they are very common not only in third world countries but our own as well. Brain tumors are at an all time high with as many as dozens of surgery's being performed in Arizona each month! The physicians are telling people that uncooked pork is the issue; that cooking it to 180 F will kill any parasite but I can assure you that this is a falsehood. It DOES NOT KILL THE EGG.  And so if the pork steak or roast, bacon or sausage is contaminated; so you will be if eaten or handled.

Here is a video of a brain worm; please note this is pretty graphic so use caution and note that the doctor is concerned about the amount of them in their state. This is a real problem!
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,455067,00.html

The things you can do are many; from addressing stress with flower essences and herbs, from changing diet and lifestyle, from eliminating toxins such as lawn fertilizers to the perfume you wear.

Lastly I want you to remember that YOU are in charge of your life; not your doctor, your healer or your mother. YOU have the ability to heal yourself as soon as you know you are in charge.
So take the time to look at the facts I've presented and remember that you can heal; you can change and you   CAN be well. It's all up to you.

Sanctuary

As I look back to when I was a young mom; one thing that always stands out is how tired and hassled I always felt. I was a busy person before I had two wonderful kids; I was manically busy afterwards. With helping my husband with farming, feeding hired men and the family; gardening, crafting and caring for elderly family members; I had a full load.

But one thing I always managed to do was take some time for myself. I learned early on that a grumpy Kim was no good to anyone and snapping at your kids was not the answer to the problem that ailed me…..I needed some quiet time.
It’s funny but we always seem to know that when our kids are having a meltdown from too much stimulation, too little sleep; they need a “time out” in the form of a nap or just a quiet space like their rooms. So why do we have such a hard time understanding that with ourselves?!

Meditating is a great way to help the body to get back into balance; helps the brain to function and lowers blood pressure as well as boosting the immune system. By meditating I don’t mean necessarily sitting on the floor, cross legged, humming a mindless tune. I mean taking a quiet spot and making it your sanctuary. This can be a place in your bedroom, your living room, even a garden shed! Just find a spot where people are not traipsing through and get a good book or a piece of needlepoint and spend some quality time letting your mind flow freely, away from chores.

When I was a new mother for the first time I had a very colicky sick child. Kristin was crying almost nonstop for the first nine months after she was born. She slept almost not at all; which meant that I didn’t either. But when I put her down at eleven o’clock in the evening; I would pick up the crosstitch piece that I was working on and be at it until one a.m. when she woke again. My husband knew I was exhausted and asked me why I would do this; totally flabbergasted at my behavior. I replied  "I need time to unwind”….and I did. It worked wonders on my attitude and although I got even less sleep; found it centered me to the point that I could function much better during the day.

As the kids got older; I found that summer was a terrible time to try to find any solace in the house with them being underfoot. So I would rise from bed before the dawn and have a quiet cup of tea and head out to the garden until hungry kids would urge me to come make breakfast. I even taught my littlest one to come out to the garden patch if he couldn’t find me. I can’t tell you how many times Casey would be seen; sleeper jammies on, dragging blankie and sucking his thumb; wanting his morning oatmeal. I even learned that organic gardening was imperative with him stuffing himself with strawberry’s while there.

So today on this fine Sunday morning I want you to walk around your place; pick a quiet nook and just sit for a few minutes. Close your eyes and let your mind take you to places beyond the dirty dishes; beyond the screaming kids.

This place of sanctuary is yours. And it will become your best friend if you let it.

To Supplement or Not.....

As I work with people to get to a better, healthier body and life; I find that most people are really trying to do just about anything to get the slimmed toned body.
One of the things I find many do is supplements. These are anything from the most expensive designer type protein shakes and powders to the low cost multivitamins at a discount store.

Most people that know me as an herbalist know I do recommend using the company’s products I work with that they provide. And although I am a distributer don’t have any problem with other quality supplements. The problem I do have is that I don’t know which ones are best without study. The misinformation, even blatant lying of these companies makes my head want to explode!

So what’s the big deal? Why do I care whether someone wastes their money on worthless products? It’s when I see someone taking these supplements I realize something that they don’t. Supplements can harm!

I know, I know, I’m always telling people that most supplements don’t usually cause injury. But I am talking about the company I know and trust. I’m talking about them using supplements I’ve suggested with the knowledge that I provide in a session. The truth is; some supplements can harm. No, most don’t cause serious issues but there are a list of supplements that I will absolutely have issue with.

One of the first on my list is the plain old multi-vitamin. Found in just about every store that sells food or prescriptions; the infamous multi-vitamin at first glance would seem to be the perfect thing to supplement the less than stellar American diet. But even the glossy box and nutrient label that swears to have over 100% of all the needed vitamins and minerals in a day; are less than helpful to the average person.
And truth be told; many have too much of some nutrients and less than absorbable quality ingredients. Almost all the cheaper ones are mostly filler. So what’s the big deal with this? Look to some of the side effects of the following culprits.

Calcium has to be one of the worst for me; not only because so many are taking it; but because the wrong calcium can actually cause serious harm!
To understand how calcium can cause issue we first have to understand how the body works. When you digest food and it goes into the stomach, the body has to break it down into manageable pieces, which is what hydrochloric acid does. Then food enzymes carry those nutrients to the parts of the body that need them. However when the body receives a food or nutrient that they cannot utilize, such as a form of calcium that is not digestible for the body; then it will actually pull calcium out of bones and other tissues to make an enzyme to cart it off. It will go to the brain, liver, and kidneys; sometimes ending up in arteries. This leads to heart disease, kidney death and even dementia! Ever notice those commercials for catheters? I’ve lived long enough to know that this is a new phenomenon.  And worse; it’s our women that are having the brunt of the problem because doctors are prescribing this poison to all women in the mistaken idea that calcium makes strong bones. It can but it’s a lot more complicated than drinking a glass of milk or popping a pill. And with the wrong calcium we now have a virtual epidemic of women whose kidneys have stopped working properly!

Another horrific supplement I find is the metabolic accelerator. These supplements “rev up” the body’s fat burning systems and make the person feel energized and healthy. This could not be farther from the truth. These accelerators are merely  acting much like caffeine on the body; forcing the “flight or fight” syndrome of the adrenals to work harder, included in that acceleration on the the heart and nervous system. This wreaks havoc on the body; causing adrenal fatigue, heart disease (even a heart attack or stroke!) in young people trying to emulate the Hollywood idea of healthy.
I could go on and on about the dangers of the wrong supplement but I find that if you can get to an alternative healer; go to a reputable health food store; this does NOT mean GNC or Vitamin Cottage, you can usually find some quality ingredients.

But before you start popping a capsule; before you start swallowing a vitamin remember this…… Food is the best source of help for health. God intended us to utilize what He provided and is the very best for our Mind, Body and Spirit!

Susan G. Komen Foundation .....Telling the Truth??

This time of year is a trial for me. I am usually an outspoken person on anything that contradicts my belief system and cancer is one of my most heated debates in that area.
So I have watched this fall with dismay the annual campaign of the “Run For the Cure” by the Susan G. Komen organization and tried to think of a way to make some sense of this phenomenon.

I know you are asking; What's the problem? I mean aren't these good people really trying to help our women with the deadly disease of breast cancer? Aren't they fighting the good fight for all people with disease that racks the body with pain and disfigurement? Aren't they trying desperately to fix a horrible problem of a rampant disease that kills millions in this and other countries?

Well frankly no. NO they aren't healing, NO they aren't curing and NO they aren't helping people.
I know these comments will upset; even infuriate others  but I've set back too long and watched the parade of pink ribbons strung across our nation; from shoes to shirts, from bumper stickers to flags. This is a hoax and I mean to show others about this problem.

The Susan G. Komen foundation was founded when the sister of Susan Goodman Komen; Nancy Goodman Brinker started this organization in memory of her late sister. Susan had died in 1980 of breast cancer and with that devastation; a promise to her dying sister to find a cure.

So the organization hit the media and today is a multi billion dollar business. Yet the incidence of breast cancer is higher than ever with stats showing it has actually increased every year from 1975 to today. These statistics are common knowledge with every physician in our country being completely aware of this!

So I ask. How does a multi billion dollar business look itself in the eye and say they're helping people? I imagine they're probably soothing themselves with the idea that some hidden issue is the real culprit; only waiting to be found by their top notch organization with millions done on research. I think they wish that others believe this as well and that they really don't want people to know the true issue and that is this. Chemo doesn't cure! Radiation doesn't heal! Breast mammograms can actually CAUSE cancer!  These facts are well known by the medical community and yet millions of women do these things in the vain hope that they can prevent or stave off the cancerous cells another month; another year. All the while the organization is raking in billions of dollars; it's organization heads living very well off these monies while they garner fame and fortune; all on the backs and pocketbooks of good, well meaning people donating to this “worthy” cause.

Here are some facts to consider.
In 2010 the organization payed out $44,874,086 in salaries. This includes research, fund raising and the Race for the Cure programs among other things. This is supposed to be a non profit organization yet there seem to be many people who make quite a bit of money from this group. Some top CEO's of this organization made over $300,000 salary in 2011 to "help" those in need.

The organization managed to make $301,328,691 in donations but contributed millions to Planned Parenthood for their use in early detection. And although they temporarily stopped donations due to pressure from people with a dislike of this practice have now re-aligned with this group. The problem I have with this is that they do over 300,000 abortions a year along with their offer of free breast and cervical screenings. Then if they see a suspicious finding refer the patient to be treated with chemo and radiation therapy. The fact is; abortions have been known to increase a woman's chances of breast cancer by at least 50% in women over 45 and upwards to 800% in women who have never had a child that are under the age 18!
And although the organization swears the monies released to Planned Parenthood are not for abortion purposes; basically allow other monies to be freed up for those same abortions; which DO cause more incidences of cancer. This is just splitting hairs; the fact is; abortion is big business in this organization. If you call the hotline number you are asked if you want to talk to someone for screenings and therapy or if you want an abortion. That speaks volumes to me.

Here's the thing people. Cancer and treatments for it are HUGE business in our country and others. Statistically we spent $27 million on cancer in 1990 and $90 million in 2008!
So where is the "CURE"? This isn't about curing people....it's about taking advantage of the problem for their own gain. The facts support that basically no one has gotten any farther in the quest for the cure for cancer in traditional medicine. In fact a well known study showed that a large percentage of oncologists would refuse traditional therapy if given the diagnosis of cancer!

So what remains? How do we actually combat this terrible disease? There are ways to heal the body. Many are simple and many are easy. The fact is; we are going the wrong way toward health and one of the quickest ways to be unhealthy is to follow the doctors advice in treating this illness and many others. Diet, lifestyle changes are huge in helping the body to overcome illness of any kind. Medicines are for the most part poisons; poisons designed to “kill” the bad cells. This is not effective as it also kills good cells as well; and lowers the body's resistance to other diseases; a well known secondary cause of death in cancer therapy patients. I should know. My own mother died not from the cancer racking her body but by an infection of the Pericardial Sac which caused an enlargement of the heart and heart failure. I was nine years old when my mother was buried.

So how to approach this problem? How do you find a cure for your cancer?

I would start by evaluating your lifestyle. Do you drink? Smoke? Do you eat greasy, fast food? Do you address stress? Are you on medication for illness? Are you overweight? Do you ever exercise? These are all precipitating factors in health issues of all kinds including cancer.

The first step is to see an alternative healer; someone who has experience in helping cancer and other illnesses. Then I would read up on therapies they suggest; do your homework. These things are well known and can be very helpful. Then if you wish; I would then take this to your physician and talk to them about it. Everyone needs to be informed and if your physician is really on your side; really wanting to help you; will recommend that you do your homework and make up your own mind. Run, do not walk away from a doctor who says alternative medicine is quackery. We herbalists have been around for thousands of years and know a couple of things about alternative treatments; things physicians are not taught in the medical schools of today.

Lastly; I do suggest listening to a higher power....in my case that would be God. HE is my inspiration; not traditional medicine in healing and HE will heal me; through my work with alternative therapies. God bless and may God keep you all well.

How to Live with Asthma Successfully

With the advent of rain finally in our area; I know some here will have some breathing issues. Humidity and more pollinating things will definitely take their toll.
But breathing issues are not as difficult to master as one might imagine. I have a house full of people diagnosed with asthma with my husbands at age 2, my daughter at 4 and my son at 3. I wasn’t given this label until 26 but carried the stigma of this breathing disorder from childhood on in symptoms.

So you ask; what is asthma? It’s a very commonly diagnosed term in the medical world with something like ten percent of the population having been given this name. But is information correct? Is the world getting more sick from environment and chemicals? Are we passing down more and more of our children this potentially deadly disease?
I tend to believe that although this is a much dirtier world with the spraying of fields, the chemically laden food and all the pollutants; that asthma is not on the rise. I DO believe that many have what is called Reactive Airway Disease. This is basically a vague term where the airways of a person are reacting to some issue. Asthma is a chronic, lifelong disease of the narrowing of the passage way to the lungs through the tube called the trachea, excess mucus and eventually scarring and some tissue death if left untreated. People with asthma in decades past could end up being barrel chested as they could sometimes get air in but not expel it fully; thus causing the lungs to become abnormally large. Many asthmatics died from complications of lack of air in the form of cardiac arrest.
As an alternative health person, I believe this is one of the most misdiagnosed diseases with a plethora of lung issues put into the “asthma basket”.

The thing that I like people to know is this. It does not matter whether you have asthma or not! Being able to breathe only requires that you clean your system. And by cleaning I mean the colon and most especially the small intestine. In the alternative world we believe that asthma begins in those areas. A dirty intestinal system causes an overload of breathing issues.

Now as farfetched as that may sound; I have managed to keep my whole family off steroids, and have brought down inhaler use ( the only one using them) in my daughter to almost nil. She has had the worst time of it and several years ago went through a crisis of epic proportions in her health with this disease. After four episodes of flight for life, two of which were me saving her life by doing respirations, and two intubations; I knew we needed to change what was happening to her. The doctors didn’t have answers and in fact told me that my beautiful oldest child would not make it to become an elderly person;  that she would most likely die in five years. Well it’s been 6 and she is doing great!
So how did I get her and my other family members to health? I changed how we dealt with this problem. Our lungs, and in fact all lungs don’t like pollutants. People with a sensitive trachea will react to certain manmade chemicals and pollutants in our environment. But they react most when the elimination process is bogged down. Think of the colon as a garbage disposal. If it’s plugged up, if it’s not chewing up the garbage, it stops. Then the smell and the horrid mass inside of it start to make a terrible smell.
Well when we don’t digest, eliminate and remove waste and toxins from the body we will have a backup of dangerous waste. This basically causes the body to start having health issues. The most obvious ones are gas and bloating, feeling too full; lack of appetite and eventually breathing issues can arise.

I always reach for colon cleansing herbs when I cannot breathe. It works better than any inhaler I’ve ever used and I’ve found that after getting off steroids, that my lungs work better than they have in many years past!
My daughter is living in a dryer climate and has finally learned that she cannot wait to treat her issues. She cannot just hope it goes away as she has done in younger years but reaches for the supplements that I’ve provided. Most notably is Breathe Activator which is a Chinese remedy from Nature’s Sunshine. This works similar to an inhaler with help in small situations of inflammation of the trachea. Then I have her use Lung Support which is most like a steroid in the fact that it helps the lungs long term to be stronger and healthier with less inflammation. If it’s a crisis situation we like to use Lobelia which is an ancient Native American remedy for many lung issues. It is sometimes been called Puke Weed for its properties of making an unclean colon react to toxins by making the recipient of it throw up; thus removing the offending toxins and allowing the person to breathe better.

I realize that to ask a person to not use their inhaler or steroid is asking a great deal and I would NEVER tell a person to get off of their prescribed medicine. But if someone is not happy with the asthma treatment ( in my line of work see this frequently) I tell them our story.

I will say a few things about this process for us. The first thing I dropped was the steroid. Steroids are not a great medicine for long term health and although they do stop inflammation can cause serious damage to the immune system. This is a dangerous thing to do to an asthmatic! It’s much better to treat inflammation with herbs and diet and learning what to be around and what to avoid.
I NEVER use Lobelia or suggest this if you are on a steroid as it can cause blood pressure problems and life threatening issues. If you do use Lobelia please talk to your physician first and always keep at least two hours separate from any herbal supplements and prescription or over the counter medications.
Asthma and Reactive Airway Disease can be helped with common sense treatments and if you listen to your body and not the status quo in treatments you may find that you will be a healthier and much happier person!

Muscle Testing 101

In my line of work I come across disbelievers almost every week. From Facebook to the local grocery store   I see people's eyes glaze over when I mention I'm an herbalist. Or sometimes they just smile and shake their head as if to say "Man, she's out there!".

But when I finally get a chance to sit with them and do a session I apply muscle testing to the line-up of things  I do in my hour session. This study is the practice of "asking" the body questions via the energy field of their body. The practice of muscle testing; or as some call it; Kinesiology has been around for a long time. This is a tool we use to help us "ask"  a person's body questions without getting our belief, our bias or our emotions involved. It is a simple, non invasive test of the energy the comes up from the left foot from earth to the top of our head and down again to earth through the right side of the body out the right foot.

To muscle test someone I basically explain what I'm going to do and how it works and then sit in front of the person. To test someone's energy through me I basically "complete the circuit" if you will by touching my left foot to their right foot; thus allowing me to ask their body; and not themselves what may be going on.

I ask them if they have back problems, have they had water today, which are two things that may cause issues. A dehydrated person has a harder time testing as well as someone with serious back issues; a thing that also "breaks the circuit" so to speak. If they are dehydrated I have them either drink some water, use an organic lotion or wash their hands with water before proceeding.

When I do a session I center myself with calm; a meditative state of allowing God to help me get correct answers to the questions I will ask. This is very important for me. I don't believe this energy is pulled out of the air; I believe that God provides the answer; thus giving me the correct information each time. That's why I don't worry about having them take metal or watches off when testing as I don't believe this will change the outcome. I also don't test for polarity issues as Kinesiology experts do for the same reason. The answer is there for me; all I have to do is ask.

Here is an example of what I will do during the session; using Jane as a subject. Before I start a session I ask her if I can muscle test her for possible causes to her health issues. If she says yes I can proceed. I will NEVER do muscle testing on someone that says they feel uncomfortable with this procedure. So after Jane says yes then I proceed.

I have Jane sit in front of me; and I gently will place my foot touching or on top of her foot. I put my hands together ( as shown in the video provided) and begin by asking her body questions.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuy59ORygN4&feature=share

I do this to myself; not mentioning what I asked while in session. I start with things she has been telling me; such as "Does Jane have blood sugar issues?" A yes answer. Does Jane have Diabetes? A no answer. At this point I ask what herbs or supplements I think may be helpful for her. I have a list of supplements that I like to use for particular issues but find that intuition plays a big part of what my client needs. After going through the different issues and asking what other herbs might be helpful from a list I keep and  using my intuitive sense to guide me; I then end the session and write down all information gathered.

Sometimes during a session I can find things out that are beyond my herbal range such as chiropractic or Flower Essences. These are wonderful helps for back or structural problems or emotional issues. I will suggest any particular thing the body needs to get this person to homeostasis.

I then end the session with a list of suggestions that may help this person and tell them that they should come back in a month to re-test as needed and to consult their doctor before starting any supplements; particularly if I know they are already on medications from the doctor.

I know that this idea of muscle testing can cause anxiety in someone not accustomed to looking outside the box but can be a very useful tool in getting to the root cause of health.

So when you want to test this theory, try this. With another person helping you; put your arm straight out; shoulder level. Have the person helping try to push your arm down while you try to hold it steady. This is the control test for strength. Then take a packet of plain white sugar and place it with your other hand on your sternum. Have them ask out loud if you need this sugar. Then re-test again by pushing down and you resisting. The weaker state you will have is a no answer! This is the body's way of telling you that you do NOT need sugar for health! No one needs white sugar and is a very effective way to showcase the muscle testing theory. Enjoy testing things like "Is your name Jane?" followed by a yes answer and so forth till you feel you are getting the hang of it. You'll find that an intuition is very helpful and more accurate than the actual muscle testing session after you've done it for some time.  I actually have gotten "answers" to people's problems in the middle of the night in a dream! Then when I do actually muscle test find that my dream state was completely correct. I believe this is my mind being in a complete state of meditation and clear of outside influences such as my belief of the problem and other "noises" getting in the way. So my mind waits till I am clear of distractions to help me with the answer during that quiet time.           http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRRDh1CS-4o

So go out and find what your body needs and help not only yourself but others with this amazing new tool and remember. The answer is there; all you have to do is ask!

The Window to the Soul and to Health

This coming week will be busy with two clients at the new store and seeing others in their home. I love the chance to work one on one with people to help them get to a better place in their life! One of the best tools I have to work with is a study called Iridology. This is a study of the iris or colored part of the eye. I also do a little bit of work with the study of of the whites of the eye called Sclerology.

This fascinating work is over a hundred years old from a Hungarian physician named Ignatz Peczely. As a child he  noticed an owl with a broken leg and decided to try to help it heal. While working with this bird he saw that it had an unusual line in the iris of one eye. As he watched the bird heal, the line in the iris colored white; as if to show that the bone was also healed. Peczely realized as Iridologists everywhere now know, that the eye is not only the window to the soul but a window to health of the body.

Many people are skeptics to this study but I find that it dovetails nicely with my belief system of understanding how God shows us about the world around us. That may sound strange but if you were God and wanted to show the person that they had a health issue what better place to put it than the eye. After all who doesn't look into their own eyes each day as they put makeup on or shave? I believe God has a plan with this and it's up to us to interpret this vision of health.

I use two things along with my paperwork when I check the eye; a physicians light and a jewelers glass. I have the client sit normally and look at my nose directly while I shine the light in from the side toward the center of their face. I then put the magnifying tool up as close as necessary to see the iris clearly.

I take the time to write down what I see on an eye chart that has Iridology information. I have done this enough times to know most of it but this chart will help me to remember what may have changed after the initial visit. After looking at both eyes I make a recommendation of what might be going on.

It's important to note that although I may see an "eye sign" on the iris; the person may not have symptoms or there may only be a faint idea of something going on. I assure them that the eye is another place to look at to help with health and that diet and other factors will play a big part in feeling better. It's also important to note that as an Herbalist/Iridologist I only make suggestions of possible health issues and cannot and will not diagnose, treat or cure anyone. This is a study to show possible health issues; not a diagnostic tool of medicinal use.

So when I look at the eye what am I looking for? Here are a couple of examples of what I'm looking at and what to do about these conditions.

First is an eye of a person with a dark or brownish orange center of the iris. This condition is one with the colon and possibly the liver. A cleanse would work wonders and help the body to heal much faster.
You will also notice in the eye picture above;  the pupil is not round but has some irregularities. This is most probably caused by a back that's out. A visit to the chiropractor is in order as well as a massage.

The next is a brown eye with lines that are going from the pupil outward. This is a condition of parasites. Parasites can be found in many people that work with animals or in poor conditions but is most probably a case of eating pork and shellfish. There is NO cooking method to rid these proteins of  parasites. This is contrary to the FDA and USDA recommendations!

You will also note that there are white lines going around the iris that look like cracks. These are stress rings and from the looks of all of them; long term stress as well. This can be physical as in the case of the body fighting parasites or outside influences of life.

Another thing I look for is an eye sign called a Psori. This dramatic eye sign can be from either emotional OR physical issues. I had one client that had an eye sign on his eye in the bladder area. This made no sense to me as he was a young man; in his early 20's. But after talking to him found out that he had bladder surgery as a baby. This would be both physical AND emotional as the trauma of being torn from his mothers arms for surgery left it's mark on the eye. An herbal and flower essence combination is in order.

So the next time you look at your eyes or look deeply into another's eyes; see if you can't see some of the things I gave examples of and if you're interested can give you some thoughts on how I may be able to help!

A Less Stressful Life

As I sit by my window, listening to the sounds of summer….the wind sighing through the evergreens, the robins playing in the sprinkler; I find myself unwinding and slowly relaxing. It was an almost sleepless night, a very busy morning of running to town to bank and shop, and then coming home to put groceries away and the like.  Sitting and taking a deep breath is a nice break.

We often feel we shouldn’t slow up in the day; that our every minute must be crammed with “to do” lists of work and play. We feel guilty when we just want to hang out in our yard or home with a good book or just close our eyes and soak up a couple of minutes peace.  But why? After all, we are the captain of our life; for the most part we can choose certain things each day to make them smoother; to make them a little brighter. So what is it in us that makes us feel that we are wasting our time when we just do nothing?

The answer is what I believe to be the danger of our society; the cancerous idea that erodes our every being. This is the belief that we must act like squirrels scurrying through the fall afternoon; hoarding up winter’s food….frantically running from one place to another. We keep trying to fill our lives with things; with achievements that will mean so very little later on.

So to test my theory, try this:
Think what you did exactly one month ago on this day. Think what you did that was so important; so demanding that it positively HAD to be done; right now! Can’t remember? Neither can I. That’s the point I’m trying to make. We don’t need to be half as busy or stressed as we are; we don’t HAVE to do half of the things we do in our day but still we keep racing through our life as if our hair was on fire.
So today as you go out into the world; as you look at your “honey do” list remember this. If you were to die today would you rather of spent it taking the kids to baseball practice and mowing the lawn or would you of rather spent it doing something lovely and fun with your family? It’s your choice…..and only you can decide what is important. So try to do just that….make it memorable and you’ll be a much happier, much less stressed person!

Is a Tan Really Healthy?

With today’s busy schedules and outdoorsy life; we are exposed to sun in many parts of our day. And while I too am a fan of sunshine and fair weather; I must admit that I’m really not a fan of skin damage. This is an all too common problem in our society. We want the tan but we don’t want the damage. We want to look like bronze replicas of humans with baked skin and dark complexion.
I’m not really sure where this phenomenon came about. In the earlier parts of the generations past; women and men both were considered more beautiful if they had NO tan at all. I think it may have been because only gentlemen and women were exempt from being out in the sun each day. The average laborer or field worker was exposed to the damaging rays as they worked while nobility and the upper echelons of society were more leisurely in their lifestyle; allowing others to toil out of doors. This respect and even worship of the upper class was most probably the reason for lower class wanting to emulate them with lack of skin pigmentation.

But today we have many people tanning; using tanning creams and basically “baking” the skin to a dark leathery texture with the end result being that there are more cases of skin damage and cancer in our society than ever before. Even though many experts in the field have warned against tanning booths and not protecting our skin; people are still flocking to the beeches to lay out in the sun; hoping for the perfect tan line.

The studies of tanning booths are damning in their ability to wreak havoc on the body’s most important organ; the skin. We in the herbal world believe that the skin is considered to be the “third” kidney….meaning that it is responsible in part to helping the body to rid itself of toxins. But people do not respect this and are in fact; slathering on creams and lotions; potions of all kinds to try to get the perfect shade of dark. And then when the damage is eminent; slathering on creams of all sorts to try to stave off the inevitable damage brought on by said sun exposure. Even sunscreens are suspect with many herbalists believing that they are as much a part of the damage as the sun itself.

So what to do with this problem? First of all it’s important to rethink beauty.  If you think a tan is beautiful then go to a nursing home and look at sun damage on the face of someone born to work out of doors their whole life. Then see the woman or man that was fortunate enough to be able to be indoors and see the real difference in their skin; and most probably their health. Many of the older generation; in fact; many of my generation are now starting to have to have spots removed due to their ability to turn into cancerous growths. This is inevitable if we continue to worship the sun!

So when you go into the sun today think about how to best protect yourself. First and foremost; dress the part. A wide brimmed hat; a long sleeved shirt and pants rather than shorts will go a long way toward helping to protect the skin. If possible; staying in the house until after 4 o’clock to do outdoor work is a great idea or going out very early in the morning.  TEACH your children that skin will protect them if they protect their skin! We can stop the madness if we start teaching our kids at an early age!
And remember….God made us in His image; so if he wanted us to be baked like clay He would have made us that way.

Grandma's Medicine Cabinet?

I love to work with people, seeing the transformation of health and more importantly, attitude. This attitude is not just the physical sense but really a sense that you do have control over your body, your health and ultimately, your life. In our society we are taught that others know what is best for us; from our parents, to our teachers, our physicians and even our government. This attitude is with us from the time we are at mothers breast til the day they put us in the ground. We are discouraged from thinking for ourselves, from questioning the validity of their findings. We, in a very real sense, are taught that we do NOT know what we need for good health and a long life.

A New Year and a great start on Health!

As a former caterer and a long standing "home cook" I am often asked why I gave up a seemingly great career of cooking for others to pursue the art of healing with herbology. The answer is a simple one....I didn't! I still love to cook for others and haven't given up this enjoyable pastime at all. But now instead of cooking for up to 450 people I cook for small groups of people like friends and family.

And I haven't really changed much in my outlook toward cooking with the exception of no pork and very little milk; I do cook much the same as before. On of my favorite dishes is chalk full of nutrients and a family favorite.
Rosemary, Garlic Chicken is one I love to fix and has all the properties of a healthy meal without feeling that I'm "eating healthy". This recipe proves that you can enjoy a great meal without feeling left out of great taste!
Here is a great location for healthy food and great recipes!

If you look at the recipe you'll see that it calls for fresh Rosemary and garlic cloves. Rosemary is well known as an aromatic that eases flu symptoms and colds, helps with mucus and is great as a help to the liver! Garlic has been used for many years for boosting the immune system and is a wonderful help for the stomach. Have a look at this recipe and remember....make lots of it because EVERYONE will want a second helping!
